Long before flouride toothpaste became an everday part of American life, researchers at Indiana University were working on a better way to prevent tooth decay.

Indiana University dentist and researcher D. Joseph Muhler, working with IU chemistry profesors Dr. Harry Day and Dr. William Nebergal, helped develop a toothpaste formulation using stannous flouride.
